MasterCard’s agency Perfil BTL asked SIA Chile to develop a trivia game with soccer images for a promotional campaign.
January 2006 - Chile
MasterCard decided to launch a promotion in order to boost holiday shopping with its credit card. The most important malls in Santiago, Chile, were chosen to host the promo.
MasterCard’s agency, Perfil BTL, asked SIA Chile to develop an attractive solution to spark people’s interest in the promotion. The goal was to attract participants not only by offering prizes but by appealing to people’s desire to play an entertaining game.
Since the credit card brand is sponsoring the upcoming Soccer World Cup, as it has since 1990, the chosen solution was the game How Does the Game End? On screen, the participants watch a scene from a soccer match; the image freezes right before the game ends and participants have to guess how it ends. After making the selection, the screen shows the remaining part of the video and indicates whether the participant has one.
The solution was implemented on interactive kiosks and ran from November 21st through December 12th at 5 different malls in the Chilean capital. Participation was high, with an average of 8,000 players at each sales point. In order to play, participants had to present a receipt of a purchase made with MasterCard.
“We are really pleased with the job done by SIA Chile, as well as their dedication to making this promo a success. The most important thing, however, is how pleased the client was: the successful combination of prizes and entertainment attracted more participants than expected during the promotion”.
